Beethoven for Three

Beethoven for Three

  • First Unitarian Church of Providence (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

The Boston Classical Trio presents an all-Beethoven program featuring three early works written between 1798 and 1803. The Piano Trio in E flat was Beethoven’s first published work, Opus 1, No. 1, and he unequivocally shows off his skill as both a genius and a virtuoso pianist – a brilliant work with characteristically meticulous craftsmanship and a breathtaking variety of mood and character. Beethoven's Seven Variations on “Bei Männern” (1801), for cello and piano, and the Violin Sonata in G (1803) demonstrate how quickly he developed the duo style into a much more equal partnership between piano and solo string instrument. The aria “Bei Männern” from Mozart’s Magic Flute was encored at its first performance and was much beloved by the public when Beethoven composed his seven variations in 1801.

Susanna Ogata, Violin
Guy Fishman, Cello
